Instructions

Step 1: Download the Family Monthly Budget Template

Click the "Download" button or link for the family monthly budget template. Save the .xlsx file to your computer.

Step 2: Edit the Template

Open the downloaded file in Microsoft Excel. Fill in the "Projected" and "Actual" columns for each sub-category under the appropriate category. The "Difference" column will automatically calculate the variance between the two. Add, edit, or remove categories and sub-categories to reflect your family's specific budget needs.

Step 3: Analyze the Data

Identify over- or under-budget items by checking the "Difference" column. Use the Color-Coding: The template highlights negative differences in red, making it easy to spot problem areas.

Step 4: Customize the Design

Use the Home tab to change font styles, colors, or row heights for better readability. Include reminders or additional details at the bottom of the sheet.

Step 5: Print or Save the Template

Open File > Print in Excel. Check the Print Preview to ensure all rows and columns fit properly on the page. Set the page orientation to Portrait or Landscape based on your preferences. Save the file as a PDF for easy sharing or future reference. Select your printer and press Print for a hard copy.
