Poster sizes: letter at home, tabloid at the print shop

All six poster templates are laid out on US letter paper (8.5 × 11 in) in portrait, which is the largest size most home and office printers handle. For a notice board, a shop window or a school hallway, letter is usually enough. When you need something bigger, save the poster as a PDF and take the file to a print shop, library or office supply store. The same file scales cleanly to 11 × 17 in (tabloid), 18 × 24 in or 24 × 36 in because the text, bands and badges are vector shapes rather than images, so nothing blurs. Ask for a matte finish if the poster will hang under bright lights, and for a laminated or outdoor stock if it will face the weather.

Tips for a poster that reads from a distance

The most common poster mistake is too much text. People read a poster in two or three seconds while walking past, so the headline has to carry the message on its own — “Summer Block Party”, “Missing”, “Sale”. The templates make the headline the largest element by default and keep the body text short. Use the details field for the facts someone needs to act (date, time, venue, price) and keep each line to a few words. Choose an accent colour that contrasts with the paper: dark blue, red, teal or black on white all print well, while pale yellows and pastels disappear at a distance. Finally, put the website or phone number in the footer where the eye lands last.

Who uses these poster templates

The Event and Announcement styles cover community events, fundraisers, HOA notices, school announcements and office updates. The Concert style is for bands, DJ nights, open mics and small festivals. The Sale style gives shops a loud, high-contrast poster for clearance weekends and pop-ups. The Missing style is built for lost pets and lost items, with a dashed box where you can upload a photo of the pet or item and a boxed phone number at the bottom. The Wanted style is a parchment old-west poster for themed parties, school plays, classroom projects and good-natured jokes. Students use the Event and Announcement layouts for science fairs and presentations, and small businesses use them for workshops, open days and job postings.

Need something with more detail — a programme, a price list, a map or a tear-off tab? A flyer template holds more text at a smaller size. For a single word on a door or fence, the printable signs are faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

What poster templates are included?

Six printable styles: Event, Wanted, Missing, Concert, Sale and Announcement. Each one has an editable headline, subhead, details list, description paragraph and footer, and the accent colour changes every band, border and badge on the page.

How do I make a poster for free?

Open the Poster Maker, choose a style, type your headline, details and description into the form, pick an accent colour, then click Print / Save as PDF. There is no account, no watermark and no fee.

What size do the posters print at?

The templates are laid out for US letter (8.5 × 11 in) paper in portrait so they print on any home printer. Save a PDF and a print shop can scale the same file to 11 × 17 in (tabloid), 18 × 24 in or larger with no loss of quality, because the text and shapes are vector.

Can I add a photo to the Missing poster?

Yes. Open the Missing template in the Poster Maker and use the Photo field to upload a JPG, PNG or WebP from your device. The picture fills the photo box in the preview and the printout. Nothing is uploaded to our servers — the image stays in your browser. If you would rather print first, the box is sized so you can glue a 4×6 print into it.

What makes a poster readable from a distance?

One dominant headline, high contrast between text and background, generous white space and no more than three or four lines of detail. Keep the description short and move the call to action — a phone number, URL or date — into the footer or a coloured band, which every template here does by default.

Are the poster templates free for commercial use?

Yes. Every poster template is 100% free for personal and commercial use, with no signup, registration or attribution required.
